Basic information

As the founder of the Foundation for the John Neumann University, the Hungarian Government transferred the founding rights to the Foundation for the John Neumann University on November 16, 2020. Representing the Hungarian State as the founder, the Minister of Innovation and Technology, Prof. Dr. László Palkovics, appointed the board of trustees of the foundation to exercise the full range of foundation rights. The maintenance rights of the John Neumann University of Kecskemét were taken over by the Foundation for the John Neumann University as of August 1, 2020. Thus, the Kecskemét institution was removed from the public finance environment and continues its operation as a private university with a state-recognized, public-benefit status.

Higher education in Kecskemét looks back on a history of several decades, its roots can be found in technical, horticultural and teacher training. Building on this foundation, the Neumann János University was established, which today operates with three faculties under the management of the Foundation: the Faculty of Engineering and Informatics of the GAMF, the Faculty of Economics (GTK), and the Faculty of Horticulture and Rural Development (KVK). In the spirit of contributing to scientific life, the university also has a doctoral school, ensuring the highest level of academic training.

The institution is organically connected to the economy of the region, and its goal is to contribute to the development of the region with its knowledge, research and training offer. It pays special attention to practical education, in which cooperation with industrial and corporate partners plays an important role. In addition, the university is actively building its international research and development relationships, implementing projects together with foreign higher education institutions and partner companies.

Since 2022, the university has launched an active internationalization process, thanks to which foreign students have also appeared in Kecskemét. At the same time, new perspectives have opened up for local young people, as they can gain experience in an international environment and an open-minded approach to the world during their studies.
